R Middleton Painting Studio is holding a move-in party during the Art Walk on September 2, from 5:30 until 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be provided.
Rob Middleton is thrilled to be doubling his studio space as he enters a new phase in his 20 years of abstract painting in which he is painting works that are larger than ever. To celebrate this milestone all are invited to his new studio where there will be recent art on view, including paintings up to 7 feet tall, and a large work in progress that the artist will be creating live.
The studio is located within The Art Center Cooperative at 229 North Hogan Street in downtown Jacksonville at the corner of Hogan and Monroe, adjacent to Hemming Park. The entrance is a glass storefront next to Hemming Plaza Jewelers on Hogan Street. After taking 2 sets of stairs to the top floor, visitors enter a vast loft space full of industrious artists. Middleton loves this location and has worked inside studio space there for over 2 years. His new studio can be found at the far back corner across from his previous location. Look for the R!
Middleton began abstract painting while majoring in psychology at Princeton University. He was drawn to both disciplines for the same reason, to try to comprehend and survive his own mental illness. Ultimately painting won! Art instruction covered a gamut of still lifes, figures, landscapes, but Middleton favored the abstract style as an effective release for his creativity and emotion.
Rob goes by "R Middleton" professionally to call attention to the fact that he signs his work with only the letter "R." Middleton's work hangs in over 40 private collections and this year joined the renowned collection of Preston H. Haskell, III. The Gallery dining room at The Blue Fish Restaurant of Avondale is filled with work by Middleton. Several small R Middleton abstract paintings may be purchased at The Cummer Museum Shop.
